SAFEGUARDING
Wye Church has appointed Mrs Penny Haynes (see photo) to advise on all safeguarding matters relating to children, young people and adults as the Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). She may be contacted on 07958 592 070. She is available to speak to adults or children about any concerns, or receive emails; and also liaises with Diocesan advisors.

The Diocesan Advisors are:
Paul Brightwell: pbrightwell@diocant.org
Fiona Coombs: fcoombs@diocant.org
They are always available and must be consulted should the PSO not be available.
For other churches within the Benefice, the PSOs are normally the Churchwardens. The Church of England has agreed a clear set of safeguarding principles. You can find these here together with the contact details of other agencies that are able to assist either on a 24-hour basis or through specialist helplines and services.

We are committed to a child protection and vulnerable adults policy in line with the Canterbury Diocese. This is reviewed annually by the PCC. More details of the polices and guidelines set out by the Canterbury Diocese can be found by visiting their website and safeguarding page.

The National Safeguarding Team (NST) has produced a Parish Handbook and is available here. Safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults is high priority for all those at St Gregory and St Martin, Wye and throughout the Benefice.

All those who volunteer to work with children and young people are recruited according to Safer Recruitment Diocesan Guidelines, and hold enhanced DBS certificates, as do all those who serve on the PCC. All are also compliant with Safeguarding training from the Canterbury Diocese and take part in regular training.

The church policy is available in Wye Church porch with contact details, as is the number for Childline (0800 1111).
